Small mug balloon 2
Small earthenware ceramic mug with claystone from Gaspésie handmade by Cybèle B.Pilon in Montréal, Québec, Canada. The iron naturally present in the clay gives a dark reddish brown hue to this one of a kind piece. The colorful patterns are water carved or hand-painted on raw clay before firing and enhanced with 22k gold. The exterior of the mug is unglazed and the interior, hammered by fingers, is covered with a white tin glaze. The edge of the lips is carefully glazed with a transparent glaze. This sturdy mug is perfect for everyday use.
Cybèle B. Pilon's designs are the result of infinite variations on a single theme. She draws her inspiration from her French Canadian material culture (quilts, visual archives, built heritage, popular objects, etc.) and transposes the patterns found on her contemporary ceramics.
