Small earthenware ceramic tumbler with claystone from Gaspésie handmade by Cybèle B.Pilon in Montréal, Québec, Canada. The iron naturally present in the clay gives a dark reddish brown hue to this one of a kind piece. The exterior of the mug show a checkerboard pattern and the interior, hammered by fingers, is covered with a white tin glaze.
Cybèle B. Pilon's designs are the result of infinite variations on a single theme. She draws her inspiration from her French Canadian material culture (quilts, visual archives, built heritage, popular objects, etc.) and transposes the patterns found on her contemporary ceramics.
